Chapter one

A second date in Italy.

Like many modern love stories, Nancy and Alex's began on good old Hinge.

After their first date at a beer garden in Bushwick in 2021, Nancy couldn't stop gushing to her friends about what she declared was “the best first date I've ever been on.” No, really. There's even a photobooth picture from that night.

There was just one tiny complication: Nancy had already planned a summer in Europe, hopping between cities in Spain and Italy to visit friends. So, despite their incredible first date, she left Alex with a casual, “I'll see you when I get back!”

But a couple of glasses of wine had other plans.

While visiting her best friend Angela in Madrid, Nancy decided to send Alex a slightly ambitious, wine-fueled text: “Do you want to have our second date in Italy?”

Alex, ever the gentleman, replied, “You're drunk, aren't you? Ask me again when you're sober.”

The next morning, Nancy asked again.

And Alex said yes.

Just a few days later, Alex packed his bags and flew across the Atlantic to meet a girl he'd only been on one date with. Some might call it crazy. We'd like to think he just knew a good thing when he saw it.

What followed was an adventure through Cinque Terre and Rome, filled with hikes between colorful seaside villages, endless plates of pasta, plenty of wine, and the kind of conversations that make you forget how recently you've met someone.

In their final days in Rome, before heading back to New York City, Alex worked up the courage to ask Nancy one more question: “Will you be my girlfriend?”

She said yes.

In 2026, Alex proposed to Nancy in St. Lucia. Five years and countless adventures after that first date, they're getting ready to say “I do.”

So they're heading back to Italy—this time with their favorite people.

That spontaneous second date will always be hard to beat. But they have a feeling this next trip might just be their favorite one yet.
